Rodents in the Pee Dee

🐁

House Mice

Small and adaptable—they squeeze through gaps as small as a dime. They nest in walls, cabinets, and storage areas. A breeding pair produces dozens of offspring yearly.

🐀

Norway Rats

Large burrowers that dig along foundations and enter through basement walls. They're cautious around new objects, making them harder to trap than mice.

🏠

Roof Rats

Agile climbers entering through gaps near rooflines. Found in attics, palm trees, and elevated spaces. More common in the Lowcountry but present in Florence.

Our Rodent Elimination Process

Full Property Inspection

We examine attics, crawl spaces, basements, and exterior for droppings, gnaw marks, grease trails, and entry points. Understanding the scope of activity guides our approach.

Strategic Trapping

Professional traps placed in high-activity areas—along walls, near entry points, in attics. We return to check, remove catches, and reset. This rapidly reduces the active population.

Exclusion Work

The critical step: sealing entry points. We close gaps around pipes, wires, vents, and foundation cracks using steel mesh and other rodent-proof materials. Without this, new rodents keep coming.

Health warning: Rodent droppings and urine can spread Hantavirus, Salmonella, and other diseases. Don't sweep or vacuum droppings—this aerosolizes pathogens. Call us for safe cleanup guidance.

Rodent Questions

I only saw one mouse—is it serious?
Mice are social and rarely alone. Where there's one, there are more. They also reproduce rapidly—a small issue becomes large within weeks. Early action is much easier than fighting an established population.
Why traps instead of poison?
Traps provide immediate, verifiable results. Poisoned rodents often die in walls, creating odor problems. Poison can also harm pets or wildlife that eat affected rodents. Trapping is cleaner and more controlled.
How do rodents get in my house?
Through surprisingly small openings—mice fit through dime-sized holes, rats through quarter-sized ones. Common entry points: gaps around pipes, damaged vents, uncapped chimneys, and cracks in foundations.
Why do they keep coming back?
Trapping removes existing rodents but doesn't stop new ones from entering through the same gaps. Without proper exclusion work—sealing all entry points—you're treating symptoms, not the problem.
